"Baths and Bathing in Late Roman/Byzantine Jordan" by R. Darby, ACOR (Jordan), 3 June, 2009

ACOR (American Center of Oriental Research) is pleased to announce a public lecture : Baths and Bathing in Late Roman / Byzantine Jordan by Robert Darby (Kress Fellow at ACOR, Ph.D. Candidate in Classical Archaeology at the University of Missouri, Columbia). Wednesday June 3, 2009, 6:00 PM, ACOR (Jordan). 
The lecture will be a broad survey of selected balnea in Jordan and will present associated epigraphic and literary evidence regarding baths and bathing in the provinces of Arabia / Palaestina from the third to the sixth centuries C.E. Further, it will seek to highlight their influence on Early Islamic hammams in the region. The talk will conclude with a brief overview of my current research on Late Roman / Early Byzantine military baths in Arabia / Palaestina
