Lecturer in Late Antique History, Birkbeck, University of London

Two years fixed term contract, part time position. 

The Department of History, Classics and Archaeology is one of the leading centres of historical research in the UK and performed exceptionally well in the 2009 Research Assessment exercise. 90% of the research activities  of our staff were deemed to be of international significance. Of these 35% were judged internationally excellent and 35% world-leading. 

The Department is seeking to appoint to a two-year Lectureship in Late Antique History. You will be expected to contribute to the BA History, BA History and Archaeology and BA Classical Studies, as well as the MA in History of Ideas, MA Classical Civilisation and MA Medieval History. 

Applications from candidates working in any field of late antique History are welcome. An interest in the History of Ideas would be an advantage. 

You should have a good first degree and have ideally completed, or be near to completion of, a PhD in History, and show evidence of published research or exceptional potential. Teaching experience at degree level is desirable. 

Salary : £16,750 rising to £19,188 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. 

This job is part time and fixed term for two years. The salary quoted above is inclusive of London allowance. The appointment may be subject to a three year probationary period.
