The Ohio State University : Assistant Professor - Historian of Byzantine / Medieval Art

The Department of History of Art at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the art of Europe and/or the larger Mediterranean world between 300-1453 CE. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and demonstrate potential for sustained engagement in innovative research while teaching in both the graduate and undergraduate programs. Diverse in terms of its temporal and geographic coverage, the faculty of History of Art at OSU is particularly interested in questions of historiography and critical theory ; in cross-cultural exchange and the negociation of artistic, cultural, and political boundaries ; in art's role in mediating social action ; and in issues of representation and the affective engagement of the image. Applications from scholars whose work relates to one or more of these areas of inquiry are especially welcome.
